Effect of Inoculants and Sealing Delay on the Fermentation Quality of Early Harvested Wheat Forage

Winter cereal silages can suffer from an inadequate fermentative path which lead to aerobic instability. We evaluate the pre-ensiled conditions influencing final quality and its stability. studied use of hetero/homofermentative inoculants on two early-harvest wheat samples (312 348 g/kg dry matter—DM levels) undergoing three ensiling delays. The profiles were evaluated during first ten d ensiling, at 60 after 7 14 exposure. Aerobic stability was recorded fourteen silo opening. Significant (p < 0.05) differences profile related mainly DM levels harvest, while inoculant affected only acetic acid significantly. Finally, sealing delay did not significantly affect silage profile. overall 59.2 ± 23.6 h, cumulative temperatures lower than 438 for seven exposure higher 1526 d. Although homofermentative reduced counts yeasts in earlier harvested wheat, other showed ~4.9 Log10 colony-forming units/g, with presence spoilage fungi (Pichia Geotricum).
